Easy Faux Bob and Flapper Headband Tutorial

1. Feather

2. Black elastic headband

3. Brooch Pin

Step #1

Take your brooch and  pin the feather to the elastic headband. You may have a few of these items at home already (the pin I used is from a necklace I bought last year).

Faux Bob

Here’s what you’ll need!

1.Brush

*** Short hair chicks skip steps 2-4

1.Create a side part

2. Part hair from ear to ear and clip away top half.

3. Twist hair around your finger to create a pin curl. Place pin curl close to your scalp and secure with bobby pins.

4. Create 3 to 4 pin curls in the back section

Steps 5-8

 5.  Start at the top and part out a small section of hair (about the width of your finger).

6.Use a small barrel curling iron and curl hair forward.

7.Direct the hair forward and pin with a pin curl clip (pin curls should be about the size of a nickel)

Steps 13-16

13. Try and create a “C” formation at the top using your finger to help mold hair in place.

14.Use a pin curl clip to help hold your “C” formation in place. Take your comb and tease the ends in an upward direction to create fullness.

15. Tuck ends under and secure with bobby pins.

16.Proceed to opposite side and repeat the same process. Use your rattail comb to help create an “S” formation.

Steps 17 & 18

17. Tease, tuck and pin

18. Spray, spray, spray, and spray some more!  Add your fabulous flapper headband to complete your look.

Whew … done! It should look something like this when you finish.

Easy 5 Step Pin Curls

The pin curl technique has been around for years. Pin curls were mostly used to wet set and finger wave hair back in the day. They are now a great way to create curl and body without using heat. Curling and straightening your hair everyday often leads to dry damaged hair and pin curls can help prevent hair breakage. In the tutorial below…I’ll show you how to create curl without using heat. If you’re a  natural hair chick…check out Chime ( Hair Crush) on YouTube…she does an amazing natural hair pin curl tutorial. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll need!

1. Pin Curl Clips (17 to 20 clips) or Jumbo Bobby Pins

2. Butterfly Hair Clips (3 clips)

3. Rat-tail Comb

Step #1

Part hair into three sections.

Step #2

Use butterfly hair clips to hold hair in place.

Step #3

Wrap hair around your finger and make a circle. Roll hair upward to your scalp. The smaller the circle the tighter the curl! For longer hair I suggest tight pin curls.

Step #4

You can position your pin curl to go forward or back. I prefer to roll mine back. Using your pin curl clip…clip the top of the pin curl to secure it in place.

Step #5

I usually do 2 rows of 2 on the sides and 3 rows of 3 in the back . But you can do as many pin curls as you like…do whatever you feel comfortable with!

Whew..you’re done! It should look something like this when you finish. You can leave the pin curls in for a few hours before going out or you can wrap your hair in a silk or satin scarf and sleep with them overnight!

This is how it came out the next day. You’ll have to work with the curls a bit and your curls maybe a little tight. Run your fingers through your hair to create a style. Chicks…practice makes perfect so don’t get discouraged if your curls aren’t fabulous the first time. If at first you don’t succeed…try, try again!
