Tip: When caring for color treated natural hair, use sulfate free shampoo. Sulfate free shampoo is gentle and it won’t strip away your new hair color or dry it out. Use products that help to maintain moisture and shine. Don’t forget to do regular hot oil treatments too.

The Crimp Trend

I noticed the resurgence of an old 80′s hairstyle last year – crimps. I wanted to blog about it but I wasn’t sure if this hairstyle would emerge as a serious mainstream trend. A few celebrities have been spotted wearing crimps lately, so maybe now it’s catching on. If celebrities start rocking this trend more and more … it can be a very popular spring/summer hairstyle.

To achieve this style use a three barrel waving iron instead of a crimping iron. You can also achieve a similar look by braiding your hair into a few medium size braids overnight. Remove braids in the morning and separate using your fingers.

Chicks hopefully you haven’t thrown out those old crimping irons. Crimping irons are now being used to create fabulous textured hairstyles. Many fashion designers opted for textured  hair last year to complement their spring 2012 collections. Braids Are Bangin!

Bohemian chic is in! Braids are still trending! I think that braids will be around for a while because it’s “recession proof hair” meaning you do not need a hair stylist and you can do-it-yourself. Braids are a great alternative hairstyle between hair appointments. The side braid, fishtail braid, and milkmaid braid are very popular among celebrities. Obviously, this is not a good look for corporate chicks but it’s a fun and easy style for everyone else! Ombre Color Trend

The Ombre color trend has been around for a couple of years and it continues to be a popular color technique. Many celebrities have been spotted wearing the Ombre trend. My favorite color technique is lighter highlights on top and a dark base color around the sides and back of the head. The Ombre trend is the complete opposite- dark roots with a subtle transition into a lighter color on the ends.
